Perfect for Short Breaks: Got 10 minutes between classes or during a break? The reversi game is quick to play, so you can squeeze in a match without losing track of time like you might on social media.
The reversi game begins with four stones—two black, two white—in the center of the board. Black starts, and players take turns placing a stone in an empty square to outflank and flip one or more of their opponent’s stone, capturing them by sandwiching them horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
After placing a stone, all opponent's stones caught between your new stone and another of your color flip to your side. The game continues with players alternating turns until the board is full or neither can make a legal move. The player with the most stones of their color wins, making strategic placement key to controlling the board.
The more stones on the board, the harder the game. Each wrong move can lead to your defeat, you must analyze every step you make. The winning strategy must be to occupy the corner positions (1) as soon as you can and the perimeter of the board (2). If you surrender these positions to your opponent, your chances to win are getting slimmer!
The game Reversi was invented in 1883 by two Englishmen, Lewis Waterman and John W. Mollet. It became very popular in England soon after it was invented. The game changed over time and was published under different names. Modern version of reversi game is based on the principles that its inventors established. The rules are simple, so anyone can play, no matter how old they are.
A cool fact about reversi: The game’s simplicity hides a vast complexity: there are over 10^28 possible game positions (billions of possible moves), so even pros and computers often tie, making every turn super exciting.
