How to Play Reversi

Reversi gameplay fundamentals. The board starts with four discs in the center, black moves first, and every legal move must trap one or more opposing discs in a straight line. Any trapped discs flip immediately to your color. By default, this Reversi online board shows available moves with subtle markers. You can turn those hints off in the settings once you are comfortable reading the position yourself. If a player has no legal move, that turn is passed automatically. The game ends when the board is full or neither player can move. The winner is the player controlling the most discs at the end.

Reversi Strategy

How to win more Reversi games. Start with the highest-value squares: corners first, then stable edges, while avoiding reckless early flips that hand your opponent mobility. In most positions, the strongest move is not the one that flips the most discs right now, but the one that limits strong replies on the next turn. If a match looks lost, you can restart immediately, lower the AI difficulty, or turn move hints back on to review safer patterns. As you improve, focus on corner timing, mobility, and endgame parity rather than raw disc count in the opening.

Reversi vs Othello

Many players use Reversi and Othello interchangeably when they search for the same classic disc-flipping game. In everyday web search that is usually fine. The short version is that Othello is the best-known branded name, while Reversi is the broader generic term players still use online.
