Integrating Claude into Xcode
Apple made it easy to bring Anthropic’s Claude into Xcode starting late 2025. With Xcode 26, developers can now use Claude Sonnet 4 directly for coding intelligence. This feature works on macOS 26 and later. It gives you AI help that understands your project context, keeps conversation history, and lets you attach files for better answers.
To get started, first update to the latest Xcode. Download Xcode 26 from the Mac App Store if you have not done so already. Open Xcode, then go to Settings or Preferences. Look for the Intelligence section. Here you find options to connect different AI models.
Direct Sign-In: The Simplest Way
The simplest way is direct sign-in. Select the Claude in Xcode option. Click Sign In. A browser window opens where you enter your Claude credentials. This links your account. Once connected, Claude Sonnet 4 powers the coding assistant. You can ask questions in natural language about your code. Highlight a section and get explanations. Ask to generate documentation or make inline changes. It also creates SwiftUI previews and playgrounds fast.
Usage limits apply. Your Claude subscription covers chats and Xcode work with a shared quota. Limits reset every five hours for some parts and weekly for others. This setup works best for Pro and Max users or those with premium Team and Enterprise seats that include Claude Code access.
API Key Method for Power Users
Some developers prefer the API key method for more control. Generate a key from the Anthropic console at console.anthropic.com/settings/keys. In Xcode Intelligence settings, choose to add a model provider. Select Internet Hosted. Enter the base URL as https://api.anthropic.com/. Paste your API key. Use x-api-key as the header. Some users find success with the full endpoint https://api.anthropic.com/v1/messages. Restart Xcode if needed. Then select Claude models for the assistant.

This integration changes how iOS and macOS developers work. Claude handles complex Swift and SwiftUI tasks well. It pulls context from open files and your project. Many report faster refactors, fewer bugs, and quicker feature builds. It fits right into the editor without extra tools.
